Description
This lighthouse is part of the Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge, on the northeast part of Kauai.
The lighthouse was first operational in 1913, it had the largest clamshell lens of any lighthouse in the world, reaching 90 miles out to sea. It was deactivated in 1976 & replaced with an automatic beacon.
Some of the birds within this refuge include nene geese, Laysan albatross, wedge-tailed shearwaters, Pacific golden plovers, and red-footed boobies (really!).
